So, yesterday I took my oldest son out (mandatory) to partake in the excellent training program devised by Mike McCarter (USPSA Junior Program Coordinator and Executive Director of ARPC). I'm hoping Mike also teaches kids how to drive.
Anyways, here is a pic of Nathan (on the right, using my ProEars and Glock 34). Somehow he managed to make it malfunction in a way its never malfunctioned before (limp wristing), where a spent shell fell back into the breech, primer-end first into the chamber. It was his first time shooting a handgun, so he did pretty good.

Why you should shop at Brownells
|
|
A few weeks ago, I grabbed my shooting gear and made my way out to the range for the first time in 8 months. I did the cursory function test of the pistol I was going to use, packed the right magazines, pistol belt, threw the kneepads in the truck, made sure I had my eye and ear protection, and hit the road. When I got to the range, and got ready to shoot, the right ear muff of my ProEars wouldn't work. I thought maybe the batteries had gone dead during my layoff, so I swapped them out to no avail.
After taking them apart, we discovered that one of the circuit boards had failed. I called ProEars, and without a proof of purchase, I was looking at laying out some serious cash for new electronic hearing protection. According to the serial number, the muffs were manufactured in late 2002, and this being 2008, was outside the 5 year warranty period ProEars extends to their products.
I searched through my old email looking for something to prove that I bought them within the 5 year warranty period and found nothing. So I called Brownells, and while on the phone with them, looking through my order history I found the proof of purchase, I was 6 days short of 5 years! Sweet, I thought, I can send them in for warranty service and have my gear back before the next match.
While on the phone with Brownells customer service folks, they said that I could send them back to Brownells for replacement since I purchased them from Brownells, instead of sending them in (along with thirty-some-odd dollars) to ProEars for repair. Double Sweet! Brownells sent me a brand-spanking new pair of ProEags Mag Plus electronic hearing protectors, and all I was out was return postage.
So, if you need some gun gear, parts, or accessories, I highly recommend you shop at Brownells. Not only do they send you a huge catalog that will undoubtedly occupy the tank lid of your toilet, or the coffee table, they stand by the products they sell. They sponsor various shooting matches around the country, and deserve your business.

Wow, it has been 8 months since I spent a day at the range sending lead down range at some paper and steel. There is some serious rust in the mechanism, though I did manage to land in the top 20 on one stage. That was the best. The classifier, well, lets just say it won't be counted.
I called the usual suspects and told them I would be there today, and it was a good thing I didn't specify a time, because I forgot to set my alarm. In my haste to make it to the range I had a chance to stop for either coffee or food. Coffee won. I gotta thank Al Suh for sharing his snacks, I was getting pretty hungry at that time. Though it probably wouldn't hurt me to miss a meal or twelve.
There were 81 shooters today including a whole lot of new faces (to me at least, I haven't been around much). We got started around 9ish (9:30) and were done and gone by 3. Another thing I forgot this morning was my USB memory stick, so I have to wait for Mike to email me the match database.
Rob Shepherd was the Overall Match and Open winner, Trevor Ott won Limited 10, Ray Hill won Limited, Bill Garland Sr. won Production (less than 1 point separated the top 3 Production shooters), Vern Myers won SingleStack, and Walt Scholl won Revolver (though Gene Morin shot an Open Revolver at Minor PF for 13th Overall). Nathan Swan was 1st Junior, Ray Hill was 1st Super Senior, Bill Marrs was 1st Senior, and Caryn Shepherd was 1st Lady.
Match results are here. Thanks for coming out to shoot today, it was a great spring day in Oregon. See you all next month.

OSU Benefit Match Results
|
|
Here are the match results from the OSU Benefit Match held this past weekend.
Looks like 42 shooters came out to support Beaver Nation's shooters. I hope everyone had a great time shooting 8 stages, and that much money was raised to help provide shooting gear for the folks from OSU.

March 8, 2008 Match Results

Greetings everyone, I am sure many of you wonder what-the-heck has happened to your friendly ARPC-IPSC webmaster. I've been busy. Really busy. I got laid-off from TEC Labs in December, and started working for Western Oregon University on January 2nd. I thought I liked working for TEC, but I am really happy where I am now. Much larger environment, a boss that is extraordinarily accommodating, and coworkers that are hard-working, technical, and fun to be around. Not to mention that the benefits are awesome, and I have never had this much access to the tools of my trade in any capacity since I made the transition to Information Technology more than 10 years ago.
Enough with the excuses, you all want match results. And here they are. There are many events coming up soon, and I aim to keep the site updated as much as possible.

January 12, 2008 Classifier Match Results
|
|
Its been a busy several months here at the Berkley household. My oldest son is wrestling in high school, so there is a whole bunch of running around. Not to mention I was laid off from TEC Labs in December, the holidays, and starting a new job at Western Oregon University on January 2nd. The good news is I have a GREAT job now, wrestling season ends the first week of February, and I will be bringing my oldest son out to start shooting then.
Four new classifiers were shot this past match, and EzWinScore hasn't been updated to reflect this. The match results are here. I will be at the February match, and as I get time, I will update the site with match schedules for the other clubs in the section.

December 8, 2007 Match Results
|
|
I went to the OSAA 5A Football Championship on the 8th, so I didn't come out to shoot. I also have no excuse for not getting the match results up earlier, since I have been laid off and have plenty of free time.
Here are December 8th's results: Results
Provided I am working a normal M-F 8-5 type job, I should be at our next match in January.

Another match, another day without shooting. Sigh. I made the short trip to ARPC Saturday morning with my 4 year old son in tow, and met with my friendly FFL to pick up my new Glock 35 that was my choice for winning the Amateur Civilian category at the Albany GSSF Match in August (also the last time I've been shooting). Said hi to a few folks, and left. Maybe next month will see me out shooting. My wrist feels pretty good, its the childcare and older son's sports activities in high school that keep me busy.
Anyways, enough about me. I hope everyone had fun Saturday, it actually turned out to be a very nice day weather-wise. Match results are here.
I think Mike said something about a Night Match next month, when I get more details I'll post them.
