July 4, 2008 ARPC Match Results
|
|
Happy 4th of July everyone! If a better way to celebrate our Independence Day exists, I don't know what it is. Although I would say that watching fireworks and listening to music on the National Mall with the Washington Monument in the background is one of my all-time favorite things I've ever done on the 4th. That being said, NOTHING says freedom from tyranny like the sound of gunfire. Many thanks to all the freedom-loving Americans that came out to shoot with us today. We were supposed to have the National Junior Invitational this weekend, but it was canceled due to a lack of participation. We did have one family from West "By God" Virginia make the trip out west to shoot with us today though. We were glad to have them, and I hope they enjoyed themselves.
Last weekend was the Area 1 Pistol Championship. Level II matches are renowned for tight shots, stages with a high disaster factor (i.e. lots of no-shoots and standards exercises, and more or less being the equivalent of a pool full of sharks). That being said, I asked our friendly match director to make today somewhat of a hose-fest. Fresh off my C Open Victory at Area 1, and giving up the dot-driven compensated blaster I used to Rob for some upgrades, I was going to shoot Limited, and wanted to have some fun with the iron-sighted safe-queen I own. What we had was some strong-hand, weak-hand Virginia count stage, a standing, kneeling, prone Timed Fire standards stage, and a stage with some steel and paper at appreciably not-so-close distances. It was a remarkably fun match. I'm rather thankful that Jeff Bures didn't shoot this well last weekend, or he would have won C Open.
Kevin Hodson was the Overall Match and Open Division winner. Mark Kruger won Limited, Tim Holm won Limited 10, and David Siria won Production. Nathan Swan was Top Junior, Ray Hill was Top Super Senior, Tom Angell was Top Senior, and Shirley Angell was Top Lady.
Match results are here. I hope you all had fun today. It was a great day to spend with friends celebrating our independence. Next weekend there is no regular Albany match, as the R&R Racing Northwest Multigun match will run both days. Our next event at ARPC is the GSSF Match the first weekend of August, then our normal ARPC match the 2nd weekend of August. We'll see all you Glock-jockeys in August, and the rest of you the week after that.

2008 ABC House Match Results
|
|
Sorry for the delay in getting the results posted. Doug's laptop couldn't figure out how to install the drivers for my USB Memory Stick, so I had to wait for him to email me the results. They are in 2 formats over on the ABC House page, and I'll link them below.
Chad McDonald was the 2008 ABC House Champion. Overall, I would say Aaron Davis made out better than anyone else due to his overwhelming luck during the raffle. We had some great prizes, great shooting, and awesome food. I hope we raised a ton of money for the ABC House.

Many thanks to Travis (well, the entire Giboney clan), Doug Newquist, Aaron Davis, Brad Kelley, and all of the rest of the folks that worked hard to put on this match. They do a fine job of raising money for a worthy cause. Hope to do it all again next year.

June 14, 2008 CCS Points Match Results
|
|
Today was absolutely the best weather we have seen in a couple of months for a match. April was nice, but today was awesome. It was also the first time I have shot my Open pistol in almost a year. It certainly showed on a few stages. Its also a good idea to actually sight it in besides bore-sighting it with a laser if the scope has been off the gun.
Rob Shepherd was the Overall Match and Open Division winner by less than 3 points over Chad McDonald. Chuck Anderson was Production winner, Trevor Ott was Limited 10 winner, Mark Kruger was the Limited Division winner, and Gene Temple was the Single Stack Division winner. Tim Bentley was Top Senior, Caryn Shepherd was Top Lady, Ray Hill was Top Super Senior, and Tyler Roberts was Top Junior.
Thanks for coming out to shoot with us today. It was a great day, and we have the ABC House Benefit Match tomorrow for those of you that didn't get enough shooting in today. Next match is on Friday, July 4, 2008. The regular match date next month is the R&R Racing Multigun. Match results are here.

2008 Oregon Plastic Gun Championship Match Results
|
|
What started out as a Glock-only USPSA match has now morphed into a "Plastic Gun" match, where anything with a polymer frame that meets USPSA Divsional requirements is allowed. This was the 4th of this type match, and we had 53 shooters turn out today for another 8 stages of great shooting action. Yesterday's stages were tweaked a bit and new paper targets were put up, and we started shooting around 10ish.
The weather held off, and it was a bit cool, and overcast, but a great day for shooting. Just like yesterday, lunches were ordered in from the Shedd Market. Also like yesterday, we gave away some guns at the end of the match. We finished up and most folks were gone by 3PM (2 hours quicker than yesterday).
Tom Kettells was Top Open, Top Senior, and the Overall Match winner, Patrick Kelley was Top Limited, Bill Garland Jr. was Top Production as well as Top Law Enforcement, and Rick Breneman was Top Limited 10. Ryan Leonard was Top Junior, Tom Allen was Top Super Senior, and Nancy Marrs was Top Lady.
Match results are here. Thanks for coming out to ARPC this weekend for our back-to-back specialty matches. With the cost of gas, ammo, and everything else this day and age, we appreciate all you folks that made long trips to shoot our matches. We'll see you all again next year if not earlier at one of the upcoming Area matches.

12th Annual Oregon Single-Stack Championship Match Results
|
|
Today we had about 87 shooters turn out for the twelfth iteration of the Oregon Single-Stack Championship. Things are a bit different now, with the new Single-Stack Division in USPSA (should be called Production Major). This is typically a Limited 10 only match, with folks shooting 1911's competing for awards, and everyone shooting something else (no dot-guns with big sticks) relegated to getting ribbons and shooting in one of the other divisions. Today we shot 3 divisions, with Limited 10 being the "recognized" division, Single Stack, and Limited (following L10 rules) to differentiate between those people with the skinny guns, and those of us with the fatter ones.
All of that really doesn't matter, because we were there to throw lead downrange at paper and steel, and wait around to see who would win one of the 3 Springfield Armory GI .45's in stainless we were giving away, in addition to some .45 bushing barrels from Schuemann, gift certificate from Major Nyne Guns, a knife from Blade-Tech, and a bunch of shirts, hats and assorted other items.
We had 8 very fun stages today, and started shooting close to 10 AM and most folks were on their way home by 5 after we got done with awards. Keith Tyler was the 12th Annual Oregon Single-Stack Champion (Limited 10). I think this is the 4th time he has won. Everett Mastrich won the Single-Stack Division, and Chuck Anderson was the best of all us non-1911 shooters (we had 2 Open Revolver shooters getting ready for ICORE).
Match results are here. Thanks for coming out to shoot today, we hope you enjoyed yourself and if you are driving a plastic gun, we'll see you tomorrow.

May 10, 2008 ARPC Match Results

You would think that after having a gorgeous, warm, sunny day LAST MONTH, that we might be blessed with some nice weather again THIS MONTH (ahem, MAY!!!). It didn't rain, and turned out to be a pretty nice day for one of the largest club matches we have ever had (86 shooters).
I did double-duty as stats-guy and B Limited (with a Glock) shooter today. We got started shooting after 9 and the range was pretty much empty shortly after 3. I thought it went pretty well despite the large crowd.
You'll want to look at the results, because there are some serious "go-fast" guys giving Rob a run for his money, and Chad McDonald was the "go-fastest" today. He took Open and Overall Match honors by less than 4 points over Rob. Ray Hill won Limited, Kevin Hodsdon won Limited 10, Bill Garland, Jr. won Production, Tim Holm won Single Stack, and Walt Scholl won Revolver (when are some of you guys with a round-gun gonna play with Walt?). Nathan Swan was Top Junior, Bill Marrs was Top Senior, Ray Hill was Top Super Senior, and Caryn Shepherd was Top Lady.
Thanks for coming out to shoot with us today. I hope we see you all in 3 weeks for the Oregon Single Stack Championship and/or the Oregon Plastic Fantastic match. Its good to be back out shooting, though I can't wait to get my Open gun back with a freshly stippled and reduced grip/paint job by Rob and Caryn.

So, yesterday I took my oldest son out (mandatory) to partake in the excellent training program devised by Mike McCarter (USPSA Junior Program Coordinator and Executive Director of ARPC). I'm hoping Mike also teaches kids how to drive.
Anyways, here is a pic of Nathan (on the right, using my ProEars and Glock 34). Somehow he managed to make it malfunction in a way its never malfunctioned before (limp wristing), where a spent shell fell back into the breech, primer-end first into the chamber. It was his first time shooting a handgun, so he did pretty good.

Why you should shop at Brownells
|
|
A few weeks ago, I grabbed my shooting gear and made my way out to the range for the first time in 8 months. I did the cursory function test of the pistol I was going to use, packed the right magazines, pistol belt, threw the kneepads in the truck, made sure I had my eye and ear protection, and hit the road. When I got to the range, and got ready to shoot, the right ear muff of my ProEars wouldn't work. I thought maybe the batteries had gone dead during my layoff, so I swapped them out to no avail.
After taking them apart, we discovered that one of the circuit boards had failed. I called ProEars, and without a proof of purchase, I was looking at laying out some serious cash for new electronic hearing protection. According to the serial number, the muffs were manufactured in late 2002, and this being 2008, was outside the 5 year warranty period ProEars extends to their products.
I searched through my old email looking for something to prove that I bought them within the 5 year warranty period and found nothing. So I called Brownells, and while on the phone with them, looking through my order history I found the proof of purchase, I was 6 days short of 5 years! Sweet, I thought, I can send them in for warranty service and have my gear back before the next match.
While on the phone with Brownells customer service folks, they said that I could send them back to Brownells for replacement since I purchased them from Brownells, instead of sending them in (along with thirty-some-odd dollars) to ProEars for repair. Double Sweet! Brownells sent me a brand-spanking new pair of ProEags Mag Plus electronic hearing protectors, and all I was out was return postage.
So, if you need some gun gear, parts, or accessories, I highly recommend you shop at Brownells. Not only do they send you a huge catalog that will undoubtedly occupy the tank lid of your toilet, or the coffee table, they stand by the products they sell. They sponsor various shooting matches around the country, and deserve your business.

April 12, 2008 Match Results
|
|
Wow, it has been 8 months since I spent a day at the range sending lead down range at some paper and steel. There is some serious rust in the mechanism, though I did manage to land in the top 20 on one stage. That was the best. The classifier, well, lets just say it won't be counted.
I called the usual suspects and told them I would be there today, and it was a good thing I didn't specify a time, because I forgot to set my alarm. In my haste to make it to the range I had a chance to stop for either coffee or food. Coffee won. I gotta thank Al Suh for sharing his snacks, I was getting pretty hungry at that time. Though it probably wouldn't hurt me to miss a meal or twelve.
There were 81 shooters today including a whole lot of new faces (to me at least, I haven't been around much). We got started around 9ish (9:30) and were done and gone by 3. Another thing I forgot this morning was my USB memory stick, so I have to wait for Mike to email me the match database.
Rob Shepherd was the Overall Match and Open winner, Trevor Ott won Limited 10, Ray Hill won Limited, Bill Garland Sr. won Production (less than 1 point separated the top 3 Production shooters), Vern Myers won SingleStack, and Walt Scholl won Revolver (though Gene Morin shot an Open Revolver at Minor PF for 13th Overall). Nathan Swan was 1st Junior, Ray Hill was 1st Super Senior, Bill Marrs was 1st Senior, and Caryn Shepherd was 1st Lady.
Match results are here. Thanks for coming out to shoot today, it was a great spring day in Oregon. See you all next month.
